Macaws are a grouping of large, extremely loud parrots in fantastic colors that call the rainforests of Central and South America home. With as many as 20 species of Macaw identified, they aren't all in the same boat. Some species like the Scarlet Macaw are listed in Least Concern, although populations have still suffered notable decline. Other speices, like the Spix's Macaw are listed as extinct in the wild. Much of these gorgeous birds' plight is due to the exotic pet trade, and habitat loss.
