Of the 45 different species of igunana, the marine iguana is the only igunana that spends time in the ocean. They are found exlusively in the Galapagos Islands, and have adapted to the lack of food on the islands by diving down up to 65ft and foraging underwater. They cling to the rocks on the ocean floor with their long claws, and munch on any algae they can find.
Since they spend so much time in the ocean, they take in alot of salt water, so to get rid of it, they "sneeze" it out, and can end up covering their heads and faces in a salty crust. Marine iguanas are in Vulnurable Status on the IUCN Red list, and their biggest threat is weather due to climate change that can warm water temperatures and significantly reduce the algae growth that is their main food source.
