There are close to 160,000 different moths in the world, and there may be even more that haven't been discovered yet! Moths are an indicator species, so their presence indicates a healthy environment. Moths are the most underrated pollinators and are sometimes the sole pollinators for certain plants!
Several moth species have a very short adult life, living only to mate and dying shortly after. The Luna moth life span, for example, is so short, they don't even have mouths, or digestive systems, and may only live for a week, making them a very rare sighting! Some of the moth species featured on our shirt are the endangered Blackburn's Sphinx Moth of Hawaii, and the Bog Buck moth of New York. The Leadplant moth, in conservation concern in the midwest, only feeds and lays its eggs on the Leadplant flower.
