Madagascar is home to so much biodiversity, and lemurs are well known for being an iconic species of the island. Related to monkeys, these primates have at least 100 species in 8 families of variety of lemur, and yet their population has decreased dramatically due to habitat loss, including extinction of several species over the years. Only about 10% of the island is forested after decades of development.
This design showcases the Red Ruffed Lemur (critically endangered) and the Ring-Tailed Lemur (endangered), 2 of the most recognized species of the lemur family. Lemurs are super social, forming groups called mobs, with a dominant female leading the pack. They love to sunbathe and can often be viewed in a yoga pose with their bellies out! Ruffed lemurs are important pollinators, sticking their wet noses into many variety of plants and fruits, and spreading the pollen around!
Our design also features a few endangered species of chameleons from Madagascar, as well as some of the island's flora as well!
